GiGi’s Playhouse

In 2003, Nancy Gianni approached the Barrington Area Development Council (BADC) with a visionary goal: to establish GiGi’s Playhouse and foster global acceptance for individuals with Down syndrome. Recognizing the profound impact of her mission, BADC board member Skip Gianopoulos joined Gianni as a co-founder to help bring this vision to life.

Following Gianni’s initial presentation, several BADC board members volunteered their professional time and expertise. They assisted in drafting foundational legal documents, executing marketing strategies, and providing professional photography—initiating a steadfast partnership that has endured for over two decades.

Designed as a welcoming environment for families to access resources and build lasting connections, GiGi’s Playhouse empowers children and adults with Down syndrome to lead, grow, and thrive. Today, the organization offers more than 20 therapeutic and educational programs developed by specialized educators and therapists. These no-cost activities enhance gross and fine motor skills, speech and language development, and essential social skills, helping participants build lifelong confidence and self-esteem. As of 2026, GiGi’s Playhouse has expanded to more than 61 locations worldwide.
