In 2003, the Barrington Area Development Council (BADC) partnered with Barbara L. Benson, prominent Barrington historian and former Director of the Barrington Area Historical Society, to publish a 37-page booklet celebrating the rich heritage of the region's 90-square-mile area. The collaboration was inspired by a series of historical presentations delivered by Ms. Benson to various local civic groups, including the BADC Board of Directors.

Chronicling approximately 170 years of regional history, the publication significantly expanded upon Ms. Benson’s original lectures by incorporating first-hand citizen recollections, archival local newspaper clippings, and historic photographs. The book was distributed locally, gaining popularity both as a commercial sale and a community gift. 

To ensure the preservation of this local history, BADC fully subsidized the funding for both the initial 2003 publication and its subsequent 2011 reprint (ISBN: 0-9741209-0-1).
